Any business that records customer calls and stores or analyzes those recordings needs PII redaction. That includes healthcare providers, financial services firms, contact centers, and multi-location operators across regulated industries.

Without it, every stored transcript is a compliance liability. Regulations like HIPAA, PCI DSS, and GDPR require that sensitive data be protected at rest and in transit. Redaction is how recorded conversations meet that standard.

The process works at the transcript level. Automatic speech recognition converts the audio to text, then a redaction layer identifies and strips sensitive patterns before the transcript is stored or shared. The audio itself can also be scrubbed so the spoken data is replaced with silence or a tone.
