Definition
PCI compliance refers to adherence to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), a set of security requirements designed to protect cardholder data during payment transactions.
In call tracking and call recording, PCI compliance becomes critical when customers read credit card numbers aloud during a recorded call. Storing or transmitting that audio without proper controls puts businesses at legal and financial risk.
The most common solution is pause-and-resume recording, where the system automatically stops recording when a payment is being taken, then resumes afterward. Some platforms also offer audio redaction, which scrubs card data from recordings after the fact.
Convirza, instrumented across thousands of multi-location operators, builds PCI-aware recording controls into its call infrastructure so sensitive data never reaches the recorded audio file in the first place.
